Firstly don’t panic. Plenty of people in Beijing speak basic English and are really willing to practice this. This is why lots of people will keep saying hello. They’re not trying to rob you!

In the run-up to the Games, the government has also put a lot of effort into ensuring more people can converse in English. For example 90,000 taxi drivers have been taking English lessons just for this summer!

Help getting money?

This summer ING customers will enjoy preferential exchange rates from the company’s partner, Bank of Beijing. You can visit one of Bank of Beijing’s 133 branches, which are strategically located across the city, or if you are an ING bank customer and hold an ING debit or credit card, you’ll also be able to access Bank of Beijing’s 386 ATMs. Ten foreign exchange machines are also available 7 days a week.

Printed copies of the online maps are also available at all Bank of Beijing branches. This map is also available in the airport and in some tourist areas.
